My week at Balls2 Marketing

A huge thank you to the Balls2 Marketing team

Having recently completed my BA (Hons) English and Philosophy undergraduate degree, I decided to pursue a career in marketing after much thought about the right path for me. I have always had a passion for writing, which deepened throughout my studies, yet I felt something was missing. Since I have always been creative, marketing seemed the perfect option for combining my creativity and love for writing.

I now asked myself two questions: how do I get into marketing and stand out to employers without prior experience? After reading an article about Balls2 Marketing merging with Koobr, I had the idea to contact them to ask if they would offer work experience. I thought it might be a long shot, so I was pleased when Sarah replied that she would love to have me in!

Thus, to begin with, I want to express my gratitude to the Balls2 Marketing team for all the support and guidance during an incredible week of work experience. From day one, the team has been friendly and approachable, always happy to help whenever I had questions about the tasks or their fascinating experiences working within marketing. It has been an amazing opportunity to gain experience while I continue my search for jobs.

Monday

Full of excitement (and nerves!), the week was off to a promising start as Sarah greeted me at the door with a smile, making me feel welcome from the beginning. Following a sit down and chat to discuss the week, I was ready to get stuck in the marketing world after meeting the fantastic team, including arguably the most important team member, Balls2 Marketing’s welfare officer Sadie!

Although I felt a little apprehensive due to having little experience in marketing, I soon felt settled in as I began my first task of the week: collecting PR coverage for Balls2Marketing’s clients. This involved scanning recent newspapers and magazines for any mentions of their clients, ranging from exciting new partnerships to impressive increases in supply and demand. The day went by in no time as I spent the duration of it completing this task, breaking up the day by joining Lyn and Georgia on a walk with Sadie before having lunch.

Tuesday

In the blink of an eye, it was time to begin my second day in the office. I began the day by completing the daily social checking using Loomly, a social media management platform. This involved going through Balls2 Marketing’s clients’ socials to record any new activity, ranging from new comments and direct messages to customer reviews.

Once I’d completed this task, it was time to head to the company photoshoot. Although I didn’t need to have my photo taken, I took some behind-the-scenes snaps and videos of the team, ate lots of snacks and enjoyed seeing the team get together for a fun afternoon!

Wednesday

By the time Wednesday came, I felt as though I was in the swing of things. The day’s task consisted of writing copy for a client’s website, researching information from their old website to craft compelling, concise copy for their new website. Although I felt a little unsure at first about writing on a topic on which I didn’t have much prior knowledge, I enjoyed the process of researching their products alongside using existing information on their old website to write the new content.

Thursday

To begin the day, I scanned PR coverage from industry and trade newspapers and magazines. Following this, I completed the client social checking for the day and continued with yesterday’s task of writing copy for their client’s website. Before I knew it, the day was over once I’d finished, and we were all heading home for the evening (the dark nights making it feel much later than it was!).

Friday

I entered the office on my last day of the week eager for the day ahead. I began the day by completing the daily social checking before delving into creating engaging social media content whilst writing this blog.

So, I began by finding inspiration for their social media and creating content, designing an Instagram reel for the first time using behind-the-scenes shots I took during the photoshoot earlier in the week. Afterwards, I had the exciting chance to film two day-in-the-life videos as a marketer! I thoroughly enjoyed filming and editing these using editing tools to make them ready to be posted on socials.

Final thoughts

Overall, I’ve had an incredible week with a lovely bunch of people at Balls2 Marketing. I’m looking forward to continuing my work experience next week and learning more marketing skills.

And that’s a wrap for this week!
